Internal documents on cell phone safety released in 2023 found that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) found some cell phones exceed the FCC’s own cell phone radiofrequency (RF) radiation limits when tested as if they were carried close to the body. The agency’s laboratory tests used a 2 mm distance position—similar to a phone in a pocket—measured RF radiation levels above federal limits, yet the findings were never disclosed to the public.
